Who needs Twitter when you’ve got Facebook status updates?

Well I’ve used Twitter once - I signed up and Twittered or whatever they call it, and then never used it again! Why? Because it seems totally pointless to me. It’s like a limited Facebook. I don’t have any friends on Twitter whereas I have loads of friends on Facebook.

As far as I can tell, though I may be wrong, is that the twitter thing is pretty much the same as the Facebook status update. Why would I bother with Twitter when I have Facebook?

If someone can provide me with a compelling reason then I may go and check it out again but otherwise I’m really not fussed.

There is actually a great deal of people who could give you a compelling argument, let me say whome they might be:

Brent Spore - the creation shop - iboughtamac
    Justine Ezarek - ijustine - justin.tv/ijusine
    Clintus McGintus - idoitdigital.com

So the reason why twitter is preferred by designers a little more than facebook is because of the marketing strategies used in twitter. Not only with twitter tracking can people find you interesting just by you posting a “special word” but you are able to link yourself to people who aren’t necessarily your friend. Facebook was preferred over myspace due to the fact that it was NOT a better marketing resource. It was quite easy to spam myspace and get traffic, as for Facebook, it is a little bit more difficult.

Twitter is easily accessible through your phone making it the perfect way to blog via any mobile. Adding “followers” and getting “followers” will benefit the company/website you are trying to promote. Since, you ultimately can create a profile for your marketing endeavor. Users are instantly informed about a new blog post, an interesting topic, or just your daily life. And it is much easier to track this, inform a more broad range of users, and still have much room for improving your marketing strategy.

There is no comparison, design is not the way that the object looks, it is the way the object works (- Steve Jobs)
While twitter is simple, it is actually designed quite well. If you can’t see that, then I am sorry that you are missing out on a great tool for marketing that some of the “big shots” use.

You have now fallen into the category of my most recent post, and I understand now why you couldn’t understand it.

    Sincerely,
