Conversion Matters gets a redesign!

Well after 5 or so months with the same theme I decided it was time to change and update. Especially as I keep seeing other blogs using ‘my’ old theme.

I’ve decided to add some minor advertising to the blog. I hope it’s not too annoying. They’re standard 125×125 ads as seen on many blogs.

If you’re interested in buying one of the ad spots take a look at the advertising page.

If you notice any bugs or anything funny with the theme please let me know.

ASOS you rock

Yesterday was my 20th birthday! I was just randomly checking some sub-folders in my inbox. I have lots of rules and stuff because there are loads of emails I’m sent that I’m not interested in and just filter off into different folders.

However, I got one yesterday from As Seen On Screen that was wishing me a Happy Birthday and giving me a £10 voucher! How cool is that?

I don’t how innovative it is but I’ve certainly never seen anything similar. It’s such a good marketing technique. I feel loved by ASOS and I’m likely to go and give them my cash now.

The only thing they did wrong was they didn’t seem to know my name even though they new my date of birth. I’m willing to overlook it though ‘cos they sent me a voucher and a personal email.

Whoever runs their marketing department is doing a good job in my opinion!

Who needs Twitter when you’ve got Facebook status updates?

Well I’ve used Twitter once - I signed up and Twittered or whatever they call it, and then never used it again! Why? Because it seems totally pointless to me. It’s like a limited Facebook. I don’t have any friends on Twitter whereas I have loads of friends on Facebook.

As far as I can tell, though I may be wrong, is that the twitter thing is pretty much the same as the Facebook status update. Why would I bother with Twitter when I have Facebook?

If someone can provide me with a compelling reason then I may go and check it out again but otherwise I’m really not fussed.

Quick update

This is just a very quick update to say that tomorrow I head to the University of Durham and I imagine the next few weeks are going to be rather hectic.

Hopefully I’ll still be able to blog a bit but if not, rest assured I’ll be back [sometime] after freshers week!

Also I’ve paid for a review from Matt at Blogging Fingers, which should happen in the next week or so. I’m thoroughly looking forward to see what tips and advice he can give me for the blog.

Finally, just to tide you over, is Google metrosexual?

Tesco Compare advert

I just saw a Tesco Compare (a new moneysupermarketesque site - for car loans) but weirdly the URL they promoted in the advert was to tesco.com not tescocompare.com.

I just thought that was a bit odd…

When is a blog not a blog?

When it’s a website that has been built using wordpress for convenience. Wordpress is a great CMS system and I love it. It’s so easy to set up and equally easy to use. There’d have to be a very good reason for me to NOT use wordpress on a web project these days otherwise I will, because I’m lazy and it’s easy.

I’ve recently launched a new small project, and it’s built on top of wordpress. The only thing blog like about it is that the content presentation is time based but really there are many non-blogs where the content is ordered chronologically by time.

Why am I rambling/ranting away?

My thoughts on easyPizza

Well now that I’m a full time slacker I have to act like one as well. So earlier today, when I finally got up actually I think I was still in bed (the joys of laptops!), after stumbling around the internet a bit I ended up at the easyPizza website.

This seemed an ideal solution to the lack of food in the flat and my lack of motivation to get up. The following are my thoughts on the experience.

All your SEO are belonging to us - Bodog get slammed!

Imagine this, you invest heavily in branding, marketing and search engine optimisation, only to have your primary domain name ‘given away’ by a court.

While this may sound like an unlikely horror story it has in fact happened to online gaming company Bodog. I saw this story on Daven’s blog - it caught my eye because I used to play a fair bit of online poker and bodog had seemed like one of the slicker poker sites.

Harry Potter Porn

I was doing some keyword research just now trying to work out if there would be any opportunity for some kind of Harry Potter related website and look what two of the top keywords were:

With 3756 searches we see “harry potter nude” and with 3101 searches we have “harry potter porn”.

What is the world coming to? Clearly I’ll have to buy harrypotterxxx.com….
